Today is the first day of Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period, more accurately labeled as the Annual Election Period because most of us (yes, I am on Medicare myself) are are already enrolled in Medicare. From October 15 through December 7 we can change our Medicare coverage for 2023.
If you want to switch from Original Medicare to Medicare Advantage you must make the change during Open Enrollment. If you are in Original Medicare want want to chnage your Part D prescription drug plan you must also make the change during this period.
If you have Medicare Advantage you can also make changes during the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MA OEP) which runs from January 1 through March 31. You can change into a different Medicare Advantage plan or you can switch to Original Medicare and purchase a freestanding Part D prescription drug plan. In New York only, you can also buy a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan.
